Austin Animal Center Dramatically Over Capacity

By Chantelle

The Austin Animal Center (AAC) is asking for the community’s help to mitigate their current overcrowding.

Austinites able to adopt or foster large dogs are especially needed, as the shelter has no room for incoming dogs. People considering dropping their pet at the shelter are encouraged to seek alternative rehoming options such as temporary or permanent placement with a friend or family member, or advertising the animal to a responsible home for a reasonable fee.

To encourage adoptions, AAC’s adoption fees are $20 for all ready-to-go dogs and cats. These pets come spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, which is valued at more than $200. AAC’s main campus is located at 7201 Levander Loop. The shelter also maintains kennels 1-60 at Town Lake Animal Center located at 1156 Cesar Chavez.
